Course Descriptions
CP 137 Advanced Topics in Clinical Care: This course will lead student pharmacists through discussions and practical sessions that enhance their understanding and skill levels in selected areas of clinical practice. The intent of this course is to augment this instruction and to enhance the effectiveness of students in healthcare environments. Topics include: adverse drug reactions, medication errors, communications with healthcare providers and patients, medication compliance, provision of pharmaceutical care in multiple environments, professionalism, physical assessment, body substance precautions and the relationships between culture, race and gender to pharmaceutical care. Year 3, Winter: 3 units
CP 147 Advanced Community Pharmacy Practice Experience: Supervised pharmacy experience. Students will explore the various roles of a pharmacist in community practice. These roles relate to clinical, product, and management activities. Practice settings will differ with respect to patient population, disease acuity, availability of patient-specific information, and scope of practice. Year 3, Spring; Year 4, Summer, Fall, Winter, Spring: 6 units
CP 148 A, B Acute Care Advanced Practice Experience: Supervised clinical pharmacy experience where students will develop and explore their roles as part of an interdisciplinary healthcare team, sharing responsibility with patients, caregivers and other health care professionals for drug therapy outcomes. Practice settings include hospitals and intermediate care facilities and will differ with respect to patient population, disease activity, availability of patient-specific information and scope of practice. Year 3, Spring; Year 4, Summer, Fall, Winter, Spring: 6 units
CP 148 C, D Acute Care Supplemental Advanced Practice Experience: Students enhance verbal presentation, communication, written and problem-solving skills, critical analysis of data and provision of care through a weekly conference and projects. Year 3, Spring; Year 4, Summer, Fall, Winter, Spring: 2 units
CP 149 A, B Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience in Ambulatory and Long Term Care: Supervised clinical pharmacy experience where students will develop and explore their roles as part of an interdisciplinary healthcare team, sharing responsibility with patients, caregivers and other health care professionals for drug therapy outcomes. Practice settings (clinics, pharmacies, home care services, and long term care facilities) differ with respect to patient population, disease acuity, availability of patient-specific information and scope of practice. Year 3, Spring; Year 4, Summer, Fall, Winter, Spring: 6 units
CP 149 C, D Supplemental Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience in Ambulatory and Long Term Care: Provides supplemental advanced practice opportunities for students in effective communication, critical analysis of data and provision of care. Year 3, Spring; Year 4, Summer, Fall, Winter, Spring: 6 units
CP 170's, 180's Elective Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience: Supervised clinical pharmacy experience where students will develop and explore their roles as part of an interdisciplinary healthcare team, sharing responsibility with patients, caregivers and other health care professionals for drug therapy outcomes in a variety of pharmacy settings. Examples include: drug information & analysis service, poison information, specialty clinics such as hypertension, diabetes, liver transplant, pediatrics, oncology, psychiatry, and anticoagulation. CP 150 Pharmaceutical Care Pathway Project: Students complete a project independently or in a group on a clinical topic, most commonly a Drug Use Evaluation. Year 4, Summer, Fall, Winter, Spring: 2 units |
